Spalding Esports Week Three

Spalding Esports Week 3

This week marked Week 3 of the Spring esports season, and while the results didn't fall in Spalding's favor across the board, the fight and resilience were on full display. Apex and Fortnite battled through tough lobbies, and Rocket League delivered one of the most dramatic matches in program history, forcing a Game 7 after facing a 0–3 deficit.

Apex Legends

Competing in another stacked lobby, Apex looked to build on their season total coming into the week. The team once again split their six games across two maps, with the first three played on Olympus and the final three on E-District.

In their opening set, the squad finished 8th, 13th, and 15th. The second map saw finishes of 14th, 14th, and 11th. While the placements didn't stack up the way the team hoped, there were still bright spots throughout the night.

Alyssa Smallwood led the way with one elimination and five knocks, while the team totaled 8 points on the night. That puts them in 49th out of 57 total teams.

Despite the tough results, the growth in communication and end-game awareness continues to trend upward as the Snipers look to rebound next week.

Fortnite

After a strong start to the season, the Fortnite duo entered Week 3 looking to maintain momentum in a competitive field. Across their three games of the night, they finished 15th, 8th, and 26th.

Zone pulls once again played a major factor, forcing difficult rotations and limiting opportunities to fully set up for late-game scenarios. Even so, the duo managed two eliminations on the night and accumulated 62 points.

With Week 3 complete, they now sit at 343 total points on the season, currently placing 22nd out of 138 teams.

While it was a challenging week results-wise, their consistency in mid-game survival and composure under pressure keeps them firmly in the mix as the season progresses.

Rocket League

Rocket League delivered the most dramatic storyline of the week.

The Golden Eagles found themselves in an early hole, dropping the first three games of the best-of-seven series to fall behind 0–3. Instead of folding, the Golden Eagles kept fighting.

Game 4 saw the Eagles break through with a 4-2 win. They carried that momentum into Game 5, winning 2-0, and tied up the series in Game 6 with a 5-3 victory to force a decisive Game 7.

With all the momentum on their side, the series ultimately came down to one final game. In a tightly contested finale, the Eagles fell 2-4, ending the comeback bid in heartbreaking fashion.

Michael Griffin led the way with 13 goals on 30 shots. Malakhi Barton added 3 goals of his own and 10 saves, while the team combined for 39 total shots across the series.

Though the result goes down as a loss, forcing Game 7 after trailing 0–3 speaks volumes about the team's resilience and competitive drive. It marks another step forward for a program that continues to grow each week.
