This week was the second week in the esports Spring season. It marked the debut of Spalding Esports Rocket League, as well as continued growth in all of the other titles. Apex, Rocket League, and Fortnite all played this week, but the College Football team had a break due to an opponent's forfeit.
Apex Legends
After scoring 13 points last week, Apex looked to add to their overall total. This week their first three games were played on Storm Point and the final three games were played on Olympus. On the first map they finished 5th, 17th, and 12th. And then in map two they finished 10th, 17th and 9th. Alyssa Smallwood led the way for the team finishing with one elimination and two knocks. The Spalding Snipers finished Week 2 adding 10 points making their point total 23 for the season so far.
Fortnite
Andrew Bland and Evan Orr looked to continue their week one success. They dropped into Week 2 with 177 points in the previous week. In their three games for the night they finished 7th, 9th, and 11th. These came from hard fought games where they were not lucky with zone pulls through the entire night. Almost every time the duo rotated the next zone pulled as far away from them as it could be as it got closer to the end game.
With their consistent placements through the night and Evan picking up a late elimination in game three, the duo added 104 points in this week, bringing their season long point total to 281 points. This puts them in 11th out of 147 teams.
Rocket League
History was made as Spalding Esports competed in Rocket League for the very first time. The Golden Eagles took on the University of Hartford Hawks for the first match in program history.
While the debut ended in a loss, it was a competitive match. The Golden Eagles started off slow in the best of seven. They did not score a goal in the first two games, but held the opponents to just 5 goals in those two games. In game 3 the Golden Eagles got out ahead, but ended up losing the game in OT after the Hawks scored a goal to tie it up at the very end of the game. Spalding Esports went on to lose game four, dropping the series 0-4.
Sophomore Michael Griffin led the Eagles scoring three goals on the night with 13 shots on the goal. Junior Malakhi Barton added one goal of his own with six shots.
