Spalding Esports Week 5
Week 5 was the busiest week in Spalding Esports history with the teams playing in five matches. With this many matches we say ups and downs through the week. With Rocket League leading the way for the Golden Eagles.Â
Apex Legends
Apex Legends faced some tough drops in their week five. In each of their first three games on Storm Point they faced early pressure from opponents and finished 12th, 18th, and 17th.Â
In their second map they were able to make a comeback in the rankings facing less pressure at the very beginning of the games. On Olympus they finished 16th, 5th, and 9th to end the night.Â
After a tough couple weeks Apex is looking to regroup and finish out the season strong through the last two weeks of competition. They have adjusted their strategies and are looking at the game in a new light.Â
Fortnite
The Fortnite Duo of
Andrew Bland and
Evan Orr was able to complete their bounce back in Week 5. After a challenging couple weeks with poor game three performances they were able to overcome the mental block and had a solid three games on the night.Â
They were able to finish 8th, 11th, and 7th through their three games. In all three games they faced early opposition. Each of the duo had to make a comeback with one going down in the first couple minutes of each game. Andrew performed the first reboot in this duo's history in game one, and then Evan rebooted Andrew in the second game. They made an early game adjustment and dropped in a new location for game three, but Evan almost got downed before even landing, however they overcame it and were able to make it all the way to the end game.Â
With their bounce back complete Andrew and Evan earned 108 points on the night putting them at 545 total points for the semester, placing them 23rd out of 133 teams in the conference.Â
College Football
It was a tough week for College Football in Week 5. Facing an opponent with a strong run game and a good defense, with a strategy to run the clock the entire game, it was a tall mountain for Matt to climb.Â
The opponent started with three quick scores to start game one and it was hard for Matt to catch up from there. He was able to start the comeback but was stopped short due to a couple of forced turnovers by the opponents defense. Matt dropped game one 22-52.Â
Game two started in similar fashion with the opponent forcing an early couple of turnovers to steal any momentum that Matt could get. With a lot of defensive pressure, Matt was unable to overcome the early deficit and dropped game two 35-52.
Rocket League
Rocket League had two match ups this week playing a double header on Thursday against Louisiana Tech and Fredonia State University. The Golden Eagles swept the night and earned their first two wins of the season.Â
In their first game against Louisiana Tech the Eagles set the pace early, scoring on the team six times. They won the game 6-1 with
Michael Griffin scoring 5 goals for the team. Louisiana Tech was able to bounce back in game 2 winning 3-1. From there the Golden Eagles took control and closed out the next three games 1-0, 4-2, and 2-0 to win the best of seven.Â
Their second game against Fredonia State was a totally different story. The Golden Eagles had control from the very beginning and did not look back. For their second game of the night they quickly took the first three games: 3-2, 1-0, 1-0. The fourth game ended  2-2 at the end of regulation and went to overtime. Just 9 seconds into the overtime Michael ended the series with a quick goal securing game four 3-2 and taking the series 4-0.Â
This moved the Golden Eagles to 2-3 and the season where they will look to play a final double header on March 19th against the University of Idaho and Fanshawe College.Â
