Esports Week 4 Recap - Fall 26

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Spalding Esports had a busy Week 4 playing in seven matches in four days.

Valorant
Valorant had a busy week playing three matches in total due to some reschedules. They started off with an ECAC matchup against Atlantic Cape where they played a close match against the Buccaneers. This was the first match that went to three maps for the Eagles. The map set was Ascent, Abyss, and Lotus. The Eagles dropped the first map 7-13. Map 2 on Abyss went the way of the Eagles with them winning 13-11. Not only was this the first time the Eagles saw a third map this year, but it also went to overtime. Unfortunately they dropped the map in OT 12-14, taking their first loss in the ECAC standings. They still sit in second place in their division.

For their first of two GLEC matchups in the week, The Eagles took on Shawnee State for the second time this year. In their rematch against Shawnee State the Eagles dropped the match 0-2, but showed improvement over their first meeting.

In the second GLEC matchup against the #2 seeded Ohio Wesleyan the Golden Eagles started off the night hot. On the less favorable side of map one on Lotus the Eagles managed to split the half 6-6. In a hardfought second half the Eagles ultimately dropped the map 10-13, and then went on to drop the second map falling 0-2 for the series. Despite the loss the Eagles had an excellent showing against a division leading team.

SSBU
For Week 4 in the GLEC Regular season our SSBU team took on Valparaiso University! Jordan Dickens started the Eagles off for the night debuting a new character, Dark Samus. With playing the online matches Jordan "wanted to play a character that was better at creating space and playing a bit slower." He was able to four stocks on the night leading the Eagles in their effort against the Beacons in their 0-2 loss.

Rocket League
Week 3 of ECAC play saw the Eagles take on Saint Francis University (PA). Junior Michael Griffin made his debut for the season and led the Eagles with 8 goals on the night. While the Eagles dropped the series 1-4 they took their first match of the season and are looking forward to the rest of the season.

Fortnite
Spalding's Zero-Build Duo made a huge leap up the leaderboard in the second week of their season. In their four games played they gained 181 points. They finished 29th, 1st, 3rd, and 12th in their matches. This is only the second win in Spalding Fortnite History. This vaulted them from 25th up to 10th on the leaderboard. Brock Venteicher led the duo with 12 eliminations on the night.

Malakhi Barton-Farcas had a solid week in Zero-Build Solos. Playing in his third open Malakhi is still looking to clinch a spot in the playoffs at the end of the month. In this week's open he pulled together consistent placements going 28th, 25th, and 23rd with one elimination on the night. That netted 79 points for the week moving him to 45th on the season long standings.

ZB Solos Standings:
Malakhi - 227 total points, 45th out of 148 competitors.

ZB Duos Standings:
Brock and Khoa - 281 total points, 10th out of 61 duos.
