LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Over the past two weeks, Spalding Esports has begun competition for the fall season. The Golden Eagles are competing in the Great Lakes Esports Conference (GLEC) as their primary conference while continuing to compete in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) esports league for non-conference competition. Spalding has a busy fall slate ahead, with teams competing in Valorant, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (SSBU), Rocket League and Fortnite.
Valorant
Valorant kicked off the GLEC season on 9/18 against Shawnee State University. It was a tough week one matchup against the division favorite. While the Golden Eagles dropped the series 0-2, they were able to grab some key takeaways back to the lab for practice.
Week 2 saw them face off against Mount Vernon Nazarene University where the Eagles fell short, but showed steady improvement over their Week One performance. The team showed that they are here to play and are looking forward to starting to compete in ECAC, while still preparing for their next GLEC opponents in Saint Xavier.
SSBU
The SSBU season has started a bit slow for the Eagles. They dropped the conference opener against a historically tough Heidelberg team and then faced Beloit College of Wisconsin in Week 2. While the Eagles have not tallied a win yet this season they have shown grit. Senior
Maven Curry has led the way for the Eagles so far taking 10 stocks across the first two weeks.
Rocket League
Rocket League kicked off their non-traditional season in the ECAC against Montgomery County Community College on Thursday, September 24th. They started the night keeping the games close, dropping games one and two 0-1 and 0-2. From there the Eagles stalled and Montco took games three and four. The lone goal for the Eagles came from
Giovanni Distasio assisted by
Jonathan Magana.
Fortnite
Spalding Esports' Fortnite competition looks a little different this year. There will be one duo, consisting of
Khoa Nguyen-Truong and
Brock Venteicher competing in Fortnite Builds.
Malakhi Barton-Farcas will be competing in Zero-Build Solos, and Khoa will be doubling up also competing in Build Solos later in the Fall.
The Zero-Build Solos season is the only that has kicked off so far. The season will consist of four open qualifiers in which the top 20 individuals will qualify for playoffs. The remaining 20 spots will be assigned to the top 20 highest scoring teams on the season leader board who have not previously qualified.
ZB Solos Open 1 Results:
Malakhi: 98 Points, 34th out of 140 competitors.
All conference matches for the Golden Eagles will be streamed live on Twitch and Youtube!
