LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Spalding University and the Louisville Sports Commission served as hosts for the regional championships, marking the first time this region's event was held in Louisville. The course at Tom Sawyer featured wooded loops, and open fields giving athletes a classic cross-country challenge.
Men's Race (8k)
The men's race started at 10:00 a.m. and drew an aggressive field of Division III programs. Individually, Rose-Hulman's Sam Rinker was the winner. He covered the 8 km in 24:51.27. Hope College won the event with 53 points, giving them the automatic bid for the NCAA Championship. For Spalding, the men's team placed 35th out of 37 teams.
Tobias Rice led the way for SU, finishing 174th with a time of 28:05.88.
Wyatt Frye finished in 189th with a time of 28:29.81.
Noah Stinson (237th, 29:51.68) and
Caleb Stinson (225th, 29:16.82) finished near each other.
Jadon Garcia (266th, 32:47.58) rounded out the Golden Eagles.
Women's Race (6k)
The women's race took place around 11:00 a.m., covering the 6 km distance. Spalding's women's team did not record a full team score this day. The women's individual efforts were still commendable within a strong field of 260 runners.
Bessie Kelley finished in 211th with a time of 27:03.39. Reganne Piercy finished closely behind in 214th with a time of 27:08.15.
Takara Williams rounded out the Golden Eagles with a time of 32:06.33.
