LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Spalding University has announced Trevor Johnson as head coach for the university's first ever esports team. Electronic sports, or esports, are also known as organized competitive gaming. Students will be able to compete in any game they choose and compete with others through competitions and tournaments.
Johnson began his career in esports when he served as commentator for the video game "Call of Duty" at numerous circuits. Johnson also served as a media specialist at Manchester University where he was lead designer and helped develop their esports program.
Johnson attended the University of New Haven, where he earned his Master of Science in esports business.
Johnson came to Spalding with a vision to help build a transformative program and contribute to its impact on the campus community. Johnson plans to elevate the sports team to new heights, which includes competing for some of the largest esports titles.
"My goal as head coach is to grow the team, and to truly compete with some of the biggest schools in the country," said Johnson. "I want to help develop our players both on the game and help them grow as people. I want to bring a positive impact to Spalding through growing not just the team but an esports community."
