LOUISVILLE, KY - Spalding's Men's and Women's Cross Country team competes in the SLIAC XC Championship meet.

TURNING POINT

The Golden Eagles start off their postseason on a warm, late morning in the last weekend of October. The team of two men comprised of Wyatt Frye and Peter McGowan set off first at 11:00 a.m. racing the 8k distance. The race started off in a big pack off the line Saturday morning with Frye in the front pack being led by Estrada from Greenville. McGowan eventually lead the chase pack no more than 20-30 meters back. Halfway through the race, Estrada has a strong lead and the race is ultimately strung out and the race was decided by that point. By the end of the race, Frye led the Golden Eagles by coming in 13th place in a time of 28:14.6, and McGowan finished in 18th place navigating the course in a time of 29:23.8.

For the women's race, they went off less than an hour later than when the men did at 11:55 and raced the 6k distance. The Golden Eagles only had one runner entered and that athlete was Lexie Barthmaier. The women's started off just as hot as the men did. With the favorite, Williams from Webster took the lead and maintained it throughout the entire race. But Barthmaier raced well en route to a new personal best of 28:29.7 for the season.

GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES
  • Frye and Barthmaier both earned second-team all-conference honors.
  • Barthmaier and McGowan earned All-sportsmanship team honors.
