Box Score The Golden Eagle Nine bounced back from their 14-5 loss to Greenville earlier in the day to roll past Fontbonne University 9-0 in the elimination game. SU will play tomorrow at 9:00 p.m. EST against the loser of the Webster versus Greenville game.
Korie Vire's bat remained hot, as he led SU going 3-for-4 and scored three runs. Five Golden Eagles recorded an RBI; Kyle Barbee led the way with two, on 1-for-2 hitting.
Kyle Olliges (4-2) pitched a complete game shutout, allowing seven hits, while striking out 11 batters and walking two.
After a scoreless first inning,
Jacob Woodruff hit a sacrifice groundout to the pitcher scoring Kyle Barbee from third to score SU's first run of the game.
SU added three runs in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead.
JR Belt drove in the first two runs of the inning when an error by Griffin pitcher Jacob Becker allowed
Ryan Mosby and Vire to round the bases to make the score 3-0, and Kyle Barbee singled driving in Belt for the final run of the inning.
A Derek Ferch single in the bottom of the fourth inning brought in
Jacob Woodruff from third to give the Golden Eagles a 5-0 lead.
Ryan Mosby ripped a shot to the right field wall and flew around the bases to score on an in the park home run, jumpstarting a three run bottom of the 5th to give SU an 8-0 advantage. Kyle Barbee hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Vire for the second run of the inning, and
Kam Bruner came home on a
Jacob Woodruff single to cap off the inning.
In the sixth inning,
JR Belt singled, driving in
Korie Vire for the final run of the game, earing the Golden Eagle Nine the 9-0 victory.
