Baseball Secures Second Seed in the SLIAC Tournament

CARLINVILLE, Ill. - Spalding traveled to SLIAC opponent Blackbrun over the weekend. The Golden Eagles grabbed the series win, despite losing game one.

SU secured the second seed in the SLIAC tournament.

Game 1: Spalding 5, Blackburn 6
The weekend series in Carlinville began with a high-stakes battle that ultimately saw the Golden Eagles fall just short in a 6–5 loss. Despite out-hitting the Beavers and showing plenty of life at the plate, Spalding struggled to strand runners in scoring positions and was hampered by a few uncharacteristic defensive miscues. A late-inning rally brought the Golden Eagles within striking distance, but Blackburn managed to stifle the comeback and secure the opening win, putting Spalding in an early hole to start the road trip.

Game 2: Spalding 11, Blackburn 7 (12 Innings)
Spalding showed incredible resilience in the second half of Friday's doubleheader, grinding out an 11–7 victory in an exhausting 12-inning marathon. The game was a seesaw affair that saw both teams trade blows until the Golden Eagles finally blew the gates open with a four-run explosion in the top of the 12th inning. Spalding's lineup was relentless, racking up an impressive 18 total hits, while Jordan Howard turned in a heroic performance on the mound. Howard provided the necessary stability in relief, shutting down the Beavers late to earn the win and even the series.

Game 3: Spalding 2, Blackburn 1
The series finale on Saturday was a classic pitcher's duel, with Spalding clinching the series victory in a tense 2–1 defensive stand. The story of the day was Logan Strong, who was absolutely untouchable at the plate, finishing the game a perfect 4-for-4. Strong's RBI double in the first inning gave the Golden Eagles an early cushion, and after Blackburn managed to tie the game, Joshua Wilmot delivered the decisive blow with a 6th-inning RBI single to bring Strong home. The bullpen took it from there, shutting the door on the Beavers and sending Spalding into the postseason with a 27–13 record.
