Box Score 3 The Golden Eagle Nine took the first game in their spring break tournament in Tucson, Arizona, but come up short the final two games falling to 7-5 on the season.

Spalding 5 - Wisconsin- La Crosse 2
In an exciting ten inning game,
Sam White and Derek Ferch carried the Golden Eagle Nine in the first game of the tournament, bringing in the final three runs in extra innings to lead their team to a 5-2 victory.

Korie Vire got his first win of the season, pitching the final 3.1 innings, giving up no runs on just one hit and three strikeouts.

The game started off slow with a scoreless first three innings. Wis.-La Crosse was first to get on the board in the bottom half of the fourth when a triple by Alex Cordove set up an RBI double by Buxton-Verstegen that scored Cordove from third, giving them the 1-0 lead.

A quick response by Spalding in the top of the fifth would allow them to score two runs in the inning and give the Golden Eagle Nine the 2-1 lead. A walk and a hit-by pitch put
Sam White and
Ryan Mosby on second and first. A passed ball allowed them to advance to second and third, where a two RBI single by
Ryan Selent plated both runners and gave his team the 2-1lead.

But come the bottom seventh, Wis.-La Crosse would tie it up at 2-2 after an RBI single by Cole Cefalu scored Josh Rowles from second base.

With the score still tied 2-2 through nine innings, this game would go into extra innings where Spalding wouldn't hesitate to score. In the top half of the tenth, SU would bring in three runs on an RBI single by Derek Ferch and a two RBI single by
Sam White that plated Ferch and
Matt West, giving them the 5-2 lead.

Korie Vire would hold them in a three up and three down bottom of the tenth, securing the SU 5-2 victory.

Spalding 5 - Macalester 9
In a game where the SU bats were silenced to only four hits, the Golden Eagle Nine came up short in their second game in Tucson, Ariz., falling to Macalester 9-5.

Jarrod Messex would get the loss, going three innings, giving up five runs, four of them earned, on five hits and two strikeouts.

Macalester would be first to strike, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. A solo homerun by lead-off batter Bronfen got them on the board early. Later in the inning with two outs, Foltz would single to center field, scoring teammates Berk and Carpen, extending their lead to 3-0 over SU.

SU would get on the board in the third, scoring an unearned run on a sacrifice fly by
Matt West to right field, plating
Ryan Selent and reducing their deficit to two runs.

Macalester would extend their lead in the fourth. An RBI single to left field by Foltz and a sacrifice fly to center by Hallor gave them the 5-1 lead heading into the fifth.

SU would fight back, when a big two RBI single by Nathan Greenwell in the sixth got his team right back into the game, trailing by only two, 5-3.

The SU momentum would be short-lived, when a four-run sixth inning by Macalester improved their lead over SU to 9-3.

SU would respond the very next inning, when a costly base on balls with the bases loaded would score Derek Ferch with two outs. But with runners in scoring position and an opportunity to really cut into the Macalester lead, a fly out by Nathan Greenwell would end the inning with SU trailing 9-4.

Although SU would score another run in the eighth on an error by the short stop, their efforts would come up short as Macalester would take the 9-5 victory.

Spalding 1 - Cal Lutheran 7
The sticks would stay cold in SU's final game in Tucson, Arizona, only collecting one run in a 7-1 loss to the No. 13 ranked Kingsmen of Cal Lutheran.

Ryan Mosby would get the loss, going a solid 7 innings, giving up four runs on nine hits and two strikeouts.

The Golden Eagle Nine would take an early lead in the first, scoring one run on an RBI single by
Drew Beckman through the middle that plated Whitlock from third after leading off the inning with a triple.

SU would keep the lead through four innings, until a two RBI double by Lutheran's Cana plated DuBois Johnson and gave the Kingsmen the 2-1 lead.

The Kingsmen would score in every inning throughout the rest of the game while giving up no runs, ultimately giving them the 7-1 victory over SU.

The Golden Eagle Nine will take on SLIAC opponent Greenville College Saturday, March 22 at 4:00 p.m. EST at Derby City Field.
