Golden Eagles go 3-0 on the weekend in Eureka

EUREKA, Ill. – The Spalding University volleyball team went 3-0 over the weekend in Eureka, Ill. to improve to 10-5 on the season and 4-2 in SLIAC play.

The Golden Eagles opened the weekend with a 3-1 win over host Eureka College. SU outhit the Red Devils .204 to .137. With Jessica Diehl sidelined, Alyssa Cosgrove and Victoria Heitzman led the offensive attack. Cosgrove finished with a team-high 12 kills, while Heitzman tallied 11. Katelyn Cosgrove facilitated with 40 assists. Heitzman was also anchored the defense with 23 digs, while Koti Weaver finished with 19 respectively.

SU swept Iowa Wesleyan 25-20, 25-18, 26-24 in the opening game Saturday morning. The Golden Eagles did a number on the Tigers with the serve, finishing with 10 aces for the game. Jill Dunagan and Alyssa Cosgrove led the team with three aces each and Amanda Patterson finished with two.

Spalding wrapped up the weekend with a 3-1 win over the MacMurray Highlanders. SU finished with their highest hitting percentage of the weekend finishing with a .263 mark, while Mac hit .007. Heitzman and A. Cosgrove again led the offense combining for 30 kills, while Katelyn Cosgrove passed out 40 assists. Weaver anchored the back line with 28 digs, while Michaela Walker controlled the net with five blocks.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action Thursday, September 29 when head to IUS for a rematch with the Grenadiers at 7 pm EST.
