Spalding falls in extra innings to Concordia University Texas, 9-8.

AUSTIN, Tex. – The Spalding University baseball team saw their six game win streak come to an end at the hands of Concordia University Texas, 9-8 in ten innings. The loss brings the Golden Eagles overall record to 7-3, while the win improves the Tornados to 10-8. Ty Bratton (2-0) was credited with the win. Chance Brinley (2-1) was tagged for the loss.
 
Kam Bruner's hot streak continued as he went 3-for-5 with a walk, a RBI, and a run. Brad Speek also had a productive day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs. Matt Harper followed close behind, going 2-for-4 with a walk, two RBI's, and a run.
 
Spalding opened the scoring in the top of the first. Korie Vire reached a on a fielder's choice. He was able to steal second base to move into scoring position, before he was knocked in on a Bruner single to give Spalding a 1-0 lead. In the top of the second, Speek singled and advanced to second on a groundout from the next batter. Casey Gibson would double to right center, bringing in his man from second, giving Spalding a 2-0 lead. The Tornados would answer back in the bottom half, hanging three runs on the board to take the lead, 3-2. The back and forth game would continue as Spalding found their answer in the top of the third. Speek and Harper both singled to put runners on first and second. Once again, Gibson doubled to left center to bring Speek home and the game was tied, 3-3. Leading off the top of the fourth was Nic Chafin and he made his mark felt by belting a solo home run to left field, regaining the lead for Spalding, 4-3. The Tornados would have their answer when Caleb Maddox hit a two RBI single. After four innings of play, Concordia University Texas led, 5-4. The top of the fifth would see the Golden Eagles strike back. With runners on first and second, Austin Drake singled up the middle and brought his man from second home, tying the game at 5-5. Concordia University Texas would answer right back in the bottom half, hitting a solo shot to make it a 6-5 ballgame. Spalding would have huge sixth inning, tallying three runs to give them an 8-6 lead. Blake Patterson would hit a RBI single to right field to start the scoring. With runners on first and second, Harper would step in and double to right center, scoring both men. In the bottom of the eighth, the Tornados would use small ball by bunting with runners on the corners. It was successful, scoring the man from third and moving another man into scoring position.  A throwing error would see the man from third come home to tie the game at 8-8. In the bottom of the tenth inning, Concordia University Texas would find the hit they were looking for when Connor Bertsch hit a walk-off ground rule double to win the game.
 
Spalding will look to get back on the winning track as they take on Texas Lutheran University, March 14th in Seguin, Tex. The game has scheduled start time of 3 pm EST.
