LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Spalding University men's basketball team earned the fourth seed in the upcoming SLIAC tournament following a 12-13 season which saw them go 10-8 in conference play. They are led by Senior
Brandon Goeing who is averaging 16.7 points per game and Junior
Nick Trisko, whose solid play sees him averaging a double-double at 12.6 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. This marks Spalding's fourth straight SLIAC tournament appearance.
They will meet host MacMurray Thursday, February 25
th at 9pm EST in Jacksonville, Ill. The Highlanders earned the number one overall seed after posting a 15-10 overall record and a 12-6 mark in conference play. MacMurray is led by Senior Deavis Johnson who is averaging a double-double with 16.2 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. The Golden Eagles split the season series with MacMurray as the home team was able to claim victory in each meeting.
If the Golden Eagles advance, they will face the winner of Greenville/Westminster, which will precede the Spalding game. Greenville earned the two seed after finishing the regular season 13-12 with a 12-6 mark in the conference. They will look to their leading scorer, senior Tim Daniel to help propel them past their opponent. Westminster secured the three seed with a 10-15 overall record and a 10-8 mark in conference play. They split their season series with Greenville as the home team was able to win each game. With the rubber match taking place on the neutral floor of MacMurray College, the "sixth man" will not be the deciding factor this time.
Looking ahead, Spalding would favor a potential matchup with Greenville, as they split the season series with each team coming away with home victories. Spalding was unable to defeat Westminster this season and they were the only team in conference that took both games from the Golden Eagles. The Championship game is set for Saturday, February 27
th at 2 pm EST.
