Box Score FULTON, Mo. – The Spalding University men's basketball team fell, 77-57, to Westminster College Saturday evening. The Golden Eagles falling to 1-8 overall and 0-4 in SLIAC play.
Three players for SU reached double digit points in tonight's loss. Nick Trisko, James Turner, and Rylan Rowe scored 14, 13 and 11 points, respectively. Trisko also led the team in rebounding, grabbing nine boards.
In the first ten minutes, the offensive efforts of Sean O'Brien and Romo Tabb led Westminster to an early 22-8 lead. The momentum changed, in favor of SU, after a made three-pointer by Rowe, followed by two more from Turner, cutting their lead down to five. Two key free throws from Trisko, and five points from Keith Wallace added to the late comeback ending the first half down by only two, 32-30.
Westminster opened the second half with a made three-pointer from O'Brien. SU battled to stay within reach of the lead, hitting a few shots, including a three by Kobe Drake. After giving up eight unanswered points, the Golden Eagles trailed by 18 with 12 minutes left to play. SU struggled to defend the three point shot as Westminster tallied seven threes in the second half, with five coming off the bench. Collin Caywood, Cody Shaw, and Nick Thomas hit big time shots for the Blue Jays to increase their lead. Back to back threes from Thomas ended the game 77-57.
Next, SU will face Hope College on Monday, December 19th in the Russ Devette/Holland Sentinel Classic. The game will be played at 8 pm in Holland, Mich.
