LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University men's soccer team ended the regular season winning their tenth consecutive game, 5-2, over Iowa Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon at Champions Trace. The Golden Eagles remain undefeated in conference play finishing 9-0, and 11-6 overall.
The Golden Eagles had a productive first half, with five goals from five different players. Abdul Abdullahi found the back of the net early, scoring in the 4
th minute, his fifth goal of the season. The second goal was scored by Kornell Hillaird which marks his eighth goal of the season. The assist was credited to
Dino Ferizovic and
Sergio Olvera-Vancini. Immediately following was a goal by
Osman Hussein who has tallied 11 goals on the season.
Jacob Teasley was the next to strike for the Golden Eagles with a goal assisted by Abdi Hussein. His fifth goal of the season gave SU the 4-0 lead. Finally, defender,
Joey Lesher scored his sixth goal of the season in the 33
rd minute. The first half ended 5-0.
SU did not allow many scoring opportunities for the Tigers giving up two corner kicks and just five shots, while SU ended the game with 17 shots total. Jual Carlos Franco was able to capitalize on two of those chances in the second half scoring two goals for Iowa Wesleyan who finish their season 5-14-1 overall.
After clinching the top spot in the SLIAC standings, SU will host the semifinal match of the conference tournament on November 3
rd at 3 pm.
