LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University volleyball team moves to 11-7 on the season after defeating Westminster College 3-1 Saturday morning. The Golden Eagles handed the Blue Jays their first conference loss of the season.
Westminster had the early momentum and took the first set 25-18 over SU. The second set was a back and forth battle but SU was able to come out on top in a tight 25-23 win. The Golden Eagles continued to fight and took the next two sets by a larger margin of 25-18 for the victory.
Hannah Marshall led the Blue Jays offense with 15 kills, while Kayla Reeg passed out 41 assists. The Golden Eagles dominated the net defensively with a total of ten blocks while Westminster only had three.
Jessica Diehl (5),
Michaela Walker (5), and
Alyssa Cosgrove (4) are credited with the blocks for SU. Diehl and
Victoria Heitzman each earned 15 kills for SU while
Katelyn Cosgrove dished out 37 assists. The Golden Eagles are now 5-3 in conference play.
Next up, the Spalding University volleyball team travels to St. Louis, Mo. to take on Webster University. The SLIAC match is set for October 7
th at 8pm.
