Gabriel scores 15 points to lead su past eureka, 66-51

Point guard Brandon Gabriel scored 15 points and passed out four assists to lead the Spalding men's basketball team to a 66-51 victory at Eureka College. With the win SU improves to 14-6 on the season, and sit atop the SLIAC standings with 12-1 conference record.

Eureka started off hot taking an early 6-0 lead, but Spalding countered with a 19-3 run to take a 19-9 lead with 10:35 left in the first half.

Spalding would maintained nine point margin with just under three minutes to go in the half, but the Red Devils scored the last six points of the half, including a jump shot by Seth Wickert just before the halftime buzzer to make the score 29-26.

The Golden Eagles gained control of the game early in the second half, pushing their lead to ten points after a layup by Quayshaun Hamilton just five minutes into the half.

A Terez Smith layup extended SU's lead to 16 points at 48-32, their largest of the game with nine minutes left in the game.

The Golden Eagles went on to cruise to another conference victory 66-51.

Spalding dominated in the paint, outscoring Eureka 36-14.

Spalding also shot an impressive 56.2% from the field and 90.9% from the free the free throw line, missing only one attempt out of 11.

The Golden Eagles will be in action again Monday, February 10 versus Blackburn College at Derek Smith Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m. EST.
