Box Score On Thursday night the Spalding University Golden Eagles men's basketball team defeated SLIAC opponent Iowa Wesleyan 71-52 at the Wall Gymnasium in Jacksonville, Ill.
The Golden Eagles held the Tigers of Iowa Wesleyan to shooting only 36.4 percent from the field.

Jovante Lavender led all scorers with 15 points off the bench; he also recorded two steals for the Golden Eagles. Quayshawn Hamilton, forward for the Golden Eagles, recorded 14 points and 6 rebounds while forward Dominique Sangester added 13 points. Trey Poliette led the Tigers with 14 points off the bench.
The Golden Eagles got off to a slow start, but a three-point shot by Sangester ignited a 12-2 run, which put the Golden Eagles up 12-4 with just over 12 minutes remaining in the half.
The Tigers would try to get back in the game, but Spalding's defense would hold them to shooting only 8-of-19 from the field in the first half. Spalding would go into the half leading the Tigers 32-23.
In the second half of play, Iowa Wesleyan chipped away at Spalding's lead, and with just under 14 minutes left in the game, the Tigers were able to pull within two points.
Up 37-35, Spalding went on a 19-3 run to extend their lead to 56-38 with nine minutes left to play. Spalding would hold onto their double digit lead for the remainder of the game and defeat Iowa Wesleyan 71-52.
The Golden Eagles next game will be Saturday, February 8 at Eureka College at 4:00 p.m. EST.
