Goeing Scores 28 Points As SU Seats Blackburn, 90-69

Sophomore guard Brandon Goeing scored 28 points to lead the Spalding University (11-6; 9-1 SLIAC) men's basketball team to a 90-69 win at Blackburn College (1-15; 1-8 SLIAC) Saturday.

A Terez Smith layup put SU on the scoreboard first helping the Golden Eagles race out to a 26-11 lead mid-way through the first half.

SU extended their lead to as many as 21 points and took a 46-27 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Golden Eagles got off to a slow start in the second half, missing their first three shots and Blackburn capitalized cutting SU's lead to twelve points at 50-38.

SU bounced back behind a trio of Goeing three-pointers that extend the Golden Eagle lead back to twenty points with 12:27 to play.

Spalding went on to push their lead to as much as 25 points as they rolled to the 90-69 win.

Spalding freshman Jovante Lavender scored a career-high 14 points, knocking down 4-of-9 field goal attempts. Guard James Turner also recorded a solid game, scoring 12 points while shooting 50 percent from the field.

Chris Davis paced Blackburn with 19 points and five rebounds.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action Saturday, February 1 as they host Principia College. Tipoff is 3:00 p.m., ET at Derek Smith Gymnasium (DSG).
