Box Score Freshman guard
James Turner scored a career-high 22 points and dished four assists to lift the Spalding University men's basketball team to a 79-76 win over Greenville College.
With the win SU improves to 8-5 overall on the season. Spalding currently sits atop the SLIAC standings with a perfect 6-0 record in conference play.
Greenville jumped out to an early 11-6 lead when Ron Harris hit two free throws after a
Quayshaun Hamilton foul at the 13:16 mark in the first half.
The Golden Eagles responded with an 8-2 run taking a 14-13 lead when Turner was fouled on a layup and hit the free throw to convert the three-point play. Jamal Daniels made a layup on the Tigers next possession to regain the lead.
Greenville held a 23-21 lead with 6:09 left in the half, SU outscored the Tigers 14-8 to close the half, to take a 35-31 lead into the locker room at the break.
The Golden Eagles got out to a fast start to begin the second half, scoring six straight points to jump out to a 41-31 lead.
Thomas Blakemore scored on a layup giving SU a 58-46 lead with13:22 to play, but Greenville slowly chipped away at the Spalding lead. Alex Mumphard hit a pair of free throws with 10 seconds remaining to make the score 76-78.

Brandon Gabriel made one of two at the line to push Spalding's lead to 79-76. GC's Nick Trisko missed a three-pointer at the buzzer and the Golden Eagles escaped with the win.
Four Golden Eagles scored in double figures. Turner led the way with 22 points, while Barber added 12 points. Hamilton and Blakemore scored 11 points apiece.
Alex Mumphard led the Tigers with 17 points.
