Goeing Knocks Down Nine Three Pointers As SU Beats Eureka, 87-73

Sophomore guard Brandon Goeing knocked down nine three-pointers to lead the Spalding University men's basketball team to an 87-73 win over Eureka College Thursday night. With the win SU improves to 6-5 and 4-0 in SLIAC competition.

After a close first five minutes, Spalding broke the game open, outscoring Eureka 13-4 to take a 21-9 lead midway through the first half.

Chad Sellers connected on a jumper in the lane to give SU a 45-26 with 1:07 left in the first half. Eureka scored four straight points to end the half, but the Golden Eagles went to the locker room leading 45-30.

Will Barber knocked down a three-pointer to begin the second half to help Spalding outscore Eureka 15-10 open up 60-40 lead with fifteen minutes remaining.

The Red Devils made a late run, cutting SU's lead to 11 after a pair of Sam James free throws capped off a 14-5 EC run, but a Brandon Gabriel tip in halted the run and SU went on to win 87-73.

Goeing paced Spalding with a career-high 30 points, going 10-18 from the field while connecting on 9 of 15 attempts from beyond the arc.

Three other Golden Eagles scored in double-digits. Thomas Blakemore scored 16 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while Barber added 12 points and Devin Mayfield scored 11.

Josh Fenoglia led Eureka with a team-high 20 points and seven rebounds.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action Saturday, January 11 when they host MacMurray University, the winner will gain sole possession of first place in the SLIAC. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m., ET at Derek Smith Gymnasium (DSG).
