Box Score Seniors Will Barber and
Thomas Blakemore combined for 26 points as the Spalding University men's basketball team rolled to a 61-39 win over Iowa Wesleyan College Saturday, marking SU's third straight win.
Spalding improves to 3-5 on the season and 2-0 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) competition.
SU took control early, opening the game on a 13-2 run that was capped off by a Blakemore three-point play.
IWC's Murray Schwengels hit a three-pointer with 49 seconds left in the first half to cut SU's lead to six, but Barber matched him on Spalding's next possession to send the Golden Eagles into halftime with a 26-17 lead.
Barber connected on a jumper to open the second half sparking a 19-6 Golden Eagle run that was capped off by back-to-back baskets by
Domonique Sanford.
SU would extend their lead to game-high 24 points on a
James Turner free throw, and went on to win 61-39.
Spalding shot 51.1% for the game, while holding the Tigers to 34.9% shooting. SU also held a 29-27 advantage on the boards.
Barber paced the Golden Eagles with a game-high 14 points, while shooting a perfect 3 of 3 from three-point range. Blakemore also scored in double-digits, tallying 12 points on 5 of 6 shooting from the floor.
Dion Lightner came off the bench to lead IWC with 12 points, going 5 of 7 on the day.
Up next, the Golden Eagles will head to Lexington, Kentucky to take on in-state foe Transylvania University Saturday, December 21. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m., ET at the Beck Center.
