LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Competing in one of the largest and most competitive cross-country meets in the nation, the Spalding University Men's and Women's Cross Country teams delivered impressive performances at the Louisville Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park. Racing on their familiar home-city course against a high-caliber field spanning all collegiate divisions, the Golden Eagles capitalized on fast conditions to post a slate of personal bests and season bests.
Gemma Harkins spearheaded the women's effort, pacing the Golden Eagles with a top-100 finish in 24:48.9. The team maintained a tight grouping across the mid-pack, with
Bailey Haws (26:51.6) and Reganne Piercy (26:58.4) crossing the line just seven seconds apart, followed closely by veteran
Bessie Kelley (27:12.8).
Eryn Rataiczak rounded out the scoring five in 29:05.3.
Junior
Tobias Rice set the pace for the Spalding men, delivering a 72nd-place finish in 27:52.4 with an average pace of 5:36 per mile. Freshmen
Josiah Harris (33:57.0) and Gabriel Salazar (34:04.1) packed up together in their major invitational debut to round out the Golden Eagles' individual entries.
