CARLINVILLE, Ill. – The Spalding University softball team drops a pair of games to Webster. Spalding extends their overall record to 12-12 and 7-3 in SLIAC play.
Game 1: Spalding 19 - Blackburn 1
Spalding would put up a three-run first inning.
Michael Newsom would start the inning off with a single to left field and then a stolen base the next pitch to get himself into scoring position.
Dryden Schroeder would get a free base as he draws a walk.
Jacob Spanyer would also draw a walk as the bases are loaded for the Golden Eagles.
Michael Speck would send a double into the gap to score two on the hit for an early 2-0 SU lead. Matthew Mcdowell would ground out to the right side and score Spanyer on the hit to give Spalding the 3-0 lead. Spalding would score another run in the top of the second as SU takes advantage of Blackburn errors. The Golden Eagles would tack on three more in the third after a homerun by Speck would start the inning.
Spalding would continue to push runs across as they seven runs in fifth and three in the sixth to give Spalding the win, 19-1.
Peyton Hood picks up his sixth win of the season for an overall record for 6-2 on the mound.
Dryden Schroeder goes 2-for-2 with three runs scored, two RBIs, a walk, a stolen base. Mike Speck goes 3-for-3 with three runs scored, four RBIs, two walks, a double, and a homerun. Matt Mcdowell goes 2-for-4 with two runs scored, four RBIs, and a double as
Hunter Strong goes 3-for-5 with three RBIs and one run scored.
Marcus Collins goes 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBIs, and a walk.
Game 2: Spalding 12 - Blackburn 2
The Golden Eagles would start game two with a four-run first inning. Newsom would start the inning with a single through the infield as he gets moved to third base on the Schroeder single to the outfield. Newsom would score on a balk by the Blackburn pitcher. McDowell would also single to the outfield to score Schroeder on the hit. With Mcdowell now on third due to wild pitches, he would score on
Marcus Collins' single up the middle to give Spalding the 3-0 lead.
Sam Pinho would score Speck who walked earlier in the inning on a dingle to the outfield for a 4-0 advantage for the Golden Eagles. Despite the Beavers cutting the lead in half, Spalding would answer back with four more runs in the fourth on the
Jacob Spanyer homerun to right center for an 8-2 lead. The Golden Eagles would add another run in the fifth as they take advantage of Blackburn errors.
Jahlyn Mckie would end the offensive game for the Golden Eagles as he hits a three-run homer to right center to give Spalding the 12-2 win in game two.
Wesley Clark gets his first win of the season on the mound for Spalding. Schroeder goes 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk as Spanyer goes 2-for-5 with one run scored, a homerun, and four RBIs.
Sam Pinho goes 3-for-5 with two runs scored, a triple, and an RBI.
Game 3: Spalding 10 - Blackburn0
Spalding would strike first early in game three as errors would riddle the Blackburn defense. With the 1-0 lead, Spalding would look to extend it in the sixth inning as
Jahlyn Mckie would double to left field. Pinho would ground out to the right side to advance Mckie over to third. Mike Newsom would hit a deep fly ball to left field to score the tagging Mckie from third base for the 2-0 lead. A big five-run seventh inning would give Spalding an 8-0 lead as they continue to dominate in the batter's box. The Spalding pitching staff would blank the Blackburn offense as the Golden Eagles win game three and the series, 10-0.
Eric Bronner went 1-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, and two walks as Speck goes 4-for-5 with a run scored, three RBIs, a walk, a double, and a stolen base. Mckie would go 2-for-5 with two runs scored, a walk, and a double.
Clay Burton earned the win limiting Blackburn to 2 hits, 0 runs, while striking out 1 in 6.0 innings of action.
