LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding baseball team comes back in day two against Wheaton to earn their first two wins of the season.
Game 1: Wheaton 8 Spalding 2
Spalding would start their offense in the bottom of the third as
Eric Bronner leads off with a triple to right center.
Ethan Tuttle would score Bronner on a dribbler to second base as he beats out the throw for an RBI single. The Thunder would answer back with a five-run fourth inning as Wheaton would take advantage of Spalding errors. The Golden Eagles would get one back in the bottom of the fifth as Bronner scores his second run of the day on the single from
Dryden Schroeder. Spalding would trail the rest of the game as the offense couldn't get any hits to drop as Wheaton takes the first game, 8-2.
Peyton Hood would pick up his first loss of the season as
Ethan Tuttle and
Hunter Strong each go 2-for-4 on the day.
Game 2: Spalding 5 Wheaton 4
Spalding would walk away with the win in this 10-inning thriller. The Golden Eagles would start a two-out rally in the bottom of the second as
Ethan Tuttle would single up the middle. Tuttle would steal second to get himself into scoring position.
Michael Newsom would send a ball down the right field line to score Tuttle on his stand up double giving Spalding the lead. The Golden Eagles would tack on runs two and three in the bottom of the third to give them a three-run lead. However, the Thunder would take advantage of walks and tie the game in the top of the fourth. Spalding would take the lead once more in the bottom of the fourth to try and close out the game. Wheaton would tie the score for the second time in the game to send the contest to extras.
Ethan Tuttle would lead the offense with a double to left field. The Thunder would intentionally walk
Michael Newsom followed by another walk to
Michael Speck.
Hunter Strong would walk it off for the Golden Eagles as he singled to shortstop to score Tuttle on the bases loaded single.
Eric Wigginton would pick up his first win of the season as
Ethan Tuttle finished game one 2-for-2 with three walks.
Game 3: Spalding 10 Wheaton 5
Wesley Clark picks up his first win for the Golden Eagles as they beat the Thunder, 10-5. Wheaton would score first as walks and wild pitches push two runs across the plate. Though gaining a run back in the first, the Golden Eagles would answer back on the
Jacob Spanyer two-run homerun to give Spalding the 3-2 lead. Three doubles in the bottom of the third would push two more runs across for Spalding. A four-run fourth inning would put Spalding well ahead of the Thunder as the pitching change comes into effect for Wheaton. Both teams would remain scoreless until an error by the Thunder centerfielder would give Spalding another run in the seventh and the win 10-5.
Michael Newsom went 3-for-4 with one RBI and a walk and
Jacob Spanyer finished 1-for-2 with a homerun, two RBIs, and two walks.
