HOW IT HAPPENED
- Spalding opened the game at full speed, getting back-to-back corners in the first five minutes. The second of these, coming mid-way through the fifth minute of the game, was played in by
Mirza Ugarak and headed in by
Clayton Henn.
- The Golden Eagle attack continued to push the ball forward. Sixteen minutes and six shots after the first goal,
Kornell Hilliard put one in the back of the net to push the lead to 2-0. Hilliard's goal was assisted by goalkeeper
Trevor Massa and was Massa's first assist of his collegiate career.
- SU added a third goal in the 61
st minute when
Mani Bakari found freshman
Omar Mukoma who fired a shot past the keeper to give the Golden Eagles a 3-0 advantage.
- Spalding's offense was potent, firing 26 shots on the night and having twelve land on frame. The Golden Eagle defense stood strong, allowing only 10 shots, with four coming on-frame, by a typically powerful Berea offense.
- In the net,
Trevor Massa (2-0-1) kept a clean sheet through 80 minutes, saving three of four shots on goal to earn the win.
FOR THE FOES
- The lone goal for Berea came from Christoff Mendy in the later minutes (81'). Assisting on the goal was defender Moses Lian.
- Luis Macias (0-0-1) faced a barrage of shots from the Golden Eagles, allowing three goals, but saving nine shots over the course of the 90 minutes.
