Spalding Men's Soccer Battles Lyon to Scoreless Draw at Legacy Fields

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - In a tightly contested conference battle, the Spalding University men's soccer team fought to a scoreless 0–0 draw against Lyon College on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Legacy Fields in Louisville, Kentucky. Despite generating several prime scoring opportunities and unleashing 27 combined shots, neither side could break the deadlock across 90 minutes. With the result, Spalding shifted to 5–9–2 overall and 4–2–1 in SLIAC action, while Lyon moved to 6–5–4 overall and 3–2–2 in conference play.

Spalding set an aggressive tone early, forcing Lyon goalkeeper Henrique Arruda Santos Megale into action right out of the gate. Ryder Roberson put a shot on target in the fifth minute, followed closely by a strike from forward Forte Bess in the sixth minute that required a top-shelf save. The Golden Eagles controlled much of the field position in the opening period, earning six corner kicks while limiting the Scots to just a single shot on target before halftime. Spalding kept up the offensive pressure after the break, generating 10 second-half shots as Bess, Benit Mulume, and Roberson continuously threatened in the final third. However, Arruda Santos Megale stood tall with key saves to keep the hosts off the scoreboard through an increasingly physical finish that saw seven yellow cards issued across both squads.

Throughout the match, Spalding held the advantage in overall chance creation, outshooting Lyon 16–11 overall and 7–4 in shots on target, while also leading 9–7 in corner kick opportunities. Bess spearheaded the Eagles' attack with a team-high four shots (three on target), while Mulume added three shots of his own. In net, Spalding goalkeeper Arthur Rudolphi turned away all four shots he faced to record his fourth clean sheet of the season, while Arruda Santos Megale anchored Lyon's defense with seven saves to preserve the draw.
