Alex Martin led the Golden Eagles on the floor tonight by tallying 27 points, but it wasn't enough as Spalding fell at the hands of the Webster Gorlok, 91-78, Thursday night in St. Louis Mo. dropping Spalding to 9-13 overall and 7-7 in SLIAC play. The loss puts the Golden Eagles in an uphill battle to earn a bid to the 2018 SLIAC Tournament needing Westminster to drop at least two of their last three games to take the fourth seed.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Eagles got off to a hot start knocking down four of their first five shots to racing out to a 10-0 lead. Lelanda Matthews knocked down a jumper in the paint extending SU's lead to a game-high 15 points with 2:02 left in the quarter. However, Gorloks responded with a 9-0 run to end the quarter trimming SU's lead to six heading into the second. The Golden Eagles and Gorloks went back and forth in the second quarter exchanging the lead five times over the first six minutes with SU pulling ahead, 32-31 at the 3:48 mark. Nevertheless, Webster outscored SU 14-3 to end the period leaving the Golden Eagles trailing, 45-35, at the break. The Gorloks opened the third quarter on a 5-1 run increasing the deficit to 14 points, but a Micaiah Bowden jumper sparked a 7-0 spurt trimming the deficit to seven points. Again, the Gorloks had the answer; outscoring SU 17-11 over the final five minutes to take a 69-56 lead into the fourth and kept the margin at 13 points at the final horn, 78-91.
Alex Martin led the way for the Golden Eagles with 27 points, five rebounds and six assists. Megan Goeing, Michiah Bowden and Lelanda Mathews each followed up with nine points apiece. Mathews and Jenna Thornhill each had seven rebounds as well to lead SU's rebounding efforts.
FOR THE FOES
Aley Lucas led the Gorlocks with 17 points in their victory tonight as Jade Sawyer and Jaysea Morgan were right behind her with 16 points each. Megan Brandt led Webster with seven rebounds.
