LOUISVILLE, Ky. - In a tightly contested SLIAC matchup, Spalding University rallied past Lyon College 69–63 to earn a hard-fought victory. The Golden Eagles used a balanced effort on both ends of the floor to pull away in the second half after trailing early and held off a late push by the Scots to secure the win.
TURNING POINT
Spalding got off to a slower start, scoring just 13 points in the first quarter while Lyon built an early lead. The Eagles turned things around in the second quarter, outscoring the Scots 19–14 to take a narrow edge into halftime. From there, Spalding controlled the third quarter (22 points) and maintained enough momentum in the fourth (15 points) to close out the six-point win.
Senior
Zaneiya Batiste led Spalding with 21 points, showcasing her offensive versatility and presence inside with strong rebounding (18 total rebounds).
Anastasia Dowlen added 16 points and 7 rebounds, providing a steady scoring punch, while
Nicole Hollowell (9 points) and
Brooke McNeal (9 points) also made valuable contributions.
For Lyon, Natalya Kaza led all scorers with 18 points and a perfect 9-of-9 at the free-throw line, while Kaysharia Woods chipped in 16 points and 3 three-pointers. Molly Mason (12 points) and others kept the Scots within striking distance, but Lyon couldn't quite overcome Spalding's late game execution.
Both teams battled through multiple lead changes and eight ties, but Spalding's defense down the stretch and timely offensive rebounds helped seal the victory. The Eagles improved to 10-10 overall and 6-5 in SLIAC play, while Lyon fell to 8-10 and 5-4 in conference action.
