GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Spalding University baseball team fell to Webster University, 3-1, Friday morning at the SLIAC Baseball Tournament. The win gives the Gorloks a 1-0 start in the tournament. The Golden Eagles fall to 0-1 to start things out.
 
Josh Fleming (1-0) picks up the win, while Jimi Keating (0-1) is hit with the loss. Keating threw eight innings of six-hit baseball, issuing a season-high three base-on-balls.
 
Kam Bruner had a solid day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run driven in. Jacob Woodruff was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
 
The Gorloks struck, first plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the third taking a 2-0 lead on a Connor Wardlaw double and Mike Wick groundout. The Golden Eagles took a run back in the top of the 6^th inning to cut the deficit to one run, 2-1. Jacob Woodruff singled to shallow left field to lead off the inning, and raced home from second on a Kam Bruner single through the right side. The Gorloks quickly responded with a Ben Dinter run scoring single down the right field line in the bottom half of the inning, regaining the two-run lead. Webster starter Fleming kept the Golden Eagle bats on silent rest of the way as the Gorloks went on to victory.
 
The Golden Eagle Nine are back in action later this evening as they take on the loser of the Greenville/Westminster game. First pitch is scheduled for 8 pm EST.
