GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Spalding University baseball team fell to Greenville College, 6-1, Friday night, eliminating the Golden Eagles from the SLIAC Baseball Tournament. The win improves the Panthers to 1-1 in the tournament. The loss drops the Eagles to 0-2 in the tournament. Bryce Pearce (1-0) picks up the win, while
Kyle Olliges (0-1) is handed the loss.
Nic Chafin had a solid game at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a triple and run scored.
Jeff Thompson went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and a stolen base.

The Panthers jumped on Olliges early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning capped off by a Shane Olmsted two-run single down the left field line. The Golden Eagles got one of those runs back in the next half inning as Chafin was driven home by a Sievert sacrifice fly after Chafin led off the inning with a triple. The Panthers, however, got that run back in the bottom half on a Travis Ralls run scoring single. Greenville added a run in the seventh courtesy of a Golden Eagle error before adding another in the eighth on a wild pitch, extending the lead to 6-1. That was more than the Panthers would need as they rolled to victory.
Golden Eagle Nine finish the season with a 26-16 overall record, including 16-6 in conference play and 0-2 in the SLIAC tournament.
