Box Score 2 NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The Spalding University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at IU-Southeast dropping game one, 4-2, but bounced back to take the nightcap, 11-8. The Golden Eagles have a 7-9 overall record, while IUS moves to 11-16.
The Golden Eagles fell, 4-2, in game one.
Brooke Lamon led SU at the plate going 1-for-4 with two RBI,
Olivia Leet went 2-for-2 and
Kaylin Rucker was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Leet suffered the loss allowing four runs, seven hits, while striking out five batters and walking two.
IUS jumped out to a 4-0 lead scoring a run in the fifth inning and added three more in the sixth. The Golden Eagles fought back in the seventh inning scoring a pair of runs to cut the deficit to two runs, but couldn't complete the rally falling, 4-2.
In the nightcap, Spalding's bats came alive to outslug the Grenadiers, 11-8.
Lindsey Hubbard led SU with three RBI on a 2-for-5 performance at the plate. Sam Klein also had a solid day, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, while
Mackenzie Henderson drove in a pair of runs.
Robyn Schoen earned the win, holding IUS to four runs, on 11 hits, while striking out one batter.
The Golden Eagles jumped on IUS early scoring seven runs in the first inning to take a 7-0 lead. Lamon singled to left field driving in
Laken Heavner for the first run of the game. Hubbard capped off the inning with a single scoring
LeeAnna Hundley and Heavner for a second time for the final two runs of the inning. SU added two runs in the third inning to extend their lead to nine runs. Heavner singled to third scoring Hundley, and Heavner scored her third run of the game racing home on a wild pitch. IUS would go onto outscore the Golden Eagles 8-2 over the final 4.5 innings, but the SU would win, 11-8.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action this Saturday when they host Principia College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm and 3 pm at Holy Cross.
