Louisville, Ky. – The Spalding University baseball team defeated Anderson University, 2-1, in game one of their Saturday doubleheader. The win improves the Golden Eagles to a 6-1 overall record, while the loss drops the Ravens to 1-5.
Jimi Keating (3-0) picks up the win, while Brian Page (0-2) was handed the loss. Keating dominated over eight and two-thirds innings, while holding the Ravens to just four hits and striking out seven. While
Chance Brinley came in to earn his second save of the season.
Blake Patterson led the way at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a run batted in.
Jeff Thompson went 1-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
Matt Harper pitched in with a 2-for-3.
The Eagles scored the first run early on a
Jacob Woodruff groundout. They added to their lead in the sixth on a Patterson single. The Ravens made things interesting in the top of the ninth, though, as they scored a run on a double by Cain making things 2-1. That's as close as the game would get as
Chance Brinley was brought in to shut the door, as he closed things out.
The Golden Eagle Nine are scheduled to play again after this game against the Central College Dutch. First pitch is slated for 2 pm EST.
