DANVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University baseball team fell to Centre College, 3-0, on a chilly Wednesday evening in Danville, Kentucky. The win improves the Colonels to an 11-7 overall record. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to a 12-7 overall record. Aaryn Chandler (1-0) picks up the win, while
Hayden Davenport (1-1) was hit with the loss.
Jeff Thompson had a solid day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a walk and a double.
Ian Woodall went 1-for-3 with a walk.
Clay Kelly went 1-for-4 with a double.
CJ Phillips went 1-for-1 in a pinch-hitting appearance.
The Eagles and Colonels were holding one another in check until the bottom of the third, as third baseman Matt LaPoint came across to score the first run of the ballgame on a bases loaded walk. The Colonels added to their tally in the bottom of the fifth, scoring one on an
Issac Lineberry error and another on a Seth Hagan single. The Golden Eagles could not get the key hits they were looking for, as they left eleven runners on base in the 3-0 loss at Centre.
The Golden Eagle Nine will be back in action Saturday, March 25
th, as they welcome Westminster College to Derby City Field in their return to conference action. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1 pm EST.
