Louisville, Ky. – The Spalding University baseball team defeated Westminster College, 6-0, in the first game of their doubleheader Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Golden Eagles to a 13-7 overall record, 3-1 in conference play. The loss drops the Blue Jays to an 8-4 overall record, 3-1 in conference play.
 
Jimi Keating (6-0) picks up the win, while Alex Dickneite (2-1) was handed the loss. Keating threw seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out ten on his way to the complete-game victory.
 
Jacob Woodruff led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Ian Woodall went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jeff Thompson went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Kam Bruner was 2-for-4 with a double.
 
The Golden Eagles got things going in the bottom of the third, as Thompson doubled home Woodall for the first run of the ballgame. The Eagles added to their lead in the fourth on a Westminster error and a Nic Chafin single. The Blue Jays threatened in the top of the fifth and sixth innings, but could not break through. The Eagles added a few insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth on a couple of singles by Thompson and Woodruff. It was all Eagles from start to finish, as the Blue Jays could not get anything going against Keating.
 
The Golden Eagle Nine will be back in action this afternoon, as they take on Westminster College in the second game of their doubleheader at Derby City Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30pm EST.
