LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University volleyball team earned their fourth win of the season topping Mount St. Joseph College, 3-1, Wednesday night at Derek Smith Gymnasium. With the win the Golden Eagles improve to 4-0 on the season.
The senior duo of
Jessica Diehl and
Victoria Heitzman led the Golden Eagle attack. Diehl finished with a match-high 16 kills, and Heitzman finished with 11 kills while chipping a team-best 18 digs on defense.
Katelyn Cosgrove set up the SU hitters passing out 41 assists.
The Golden Eagles we dominant in set one taking it 25-14. The Golden Eagles finished the set with 11 kills to the Lions six, while forcing the MSJ in to nine hitting errors.
SU edged MSJ 26-24 in the second set to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Spalding was able to out hit the Lions in the second set .205 to .105 finishing the set with 12 kills and 4 errors on 39 attack attempts.
The Lions prevented the sweep taking the third set 25-20. MSJ hit an efficient .303 throwing down 15 kills in the set to the Golden Eagles 10.
Despite dropping the third set, Spalding bounced back to take the third set 25-23 behind a .333 hitting percentage for the set.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action Friday, September 9 at the Hanover College Tournament. Spalding will take on Otterbein at 5 pm EST in Hanover, Ind.
