Golden Eagles fall to 0-2 following loss to Georgetown

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University men's soccer team dropped to 0-2 on the season after suffering a 5-3 loss to Georgetown in their final game of the Centre College Alumni Classic Friday evening in Danville, Ky.

Goalkeeper Ryan Glynn (0-2-0) suffered his second loss in as many days giving up five goals on 10 attempts on-goal. Kornell Hilliard, Abdul Abdullahi and Joey Lesher scored one goal apiece for the Golden Eagles.

SU got on the board in the 6th minute when Osman Hussein found Kornell Hilliard who fired a shot past the keeper to give the Golden Eagles an early 1-0 lead. Georgetown's Nick Gregory answered in the 9th minute scoring his first of four goals in the game to tie the score, 1-1. Gregory pushed Georgetown into the lead in the 13th minute heading an Isaac Meisner cross past Glynn to make it 2-1. In the 26th minute, Abdullahi found the back of the net to even the score at two goals apiece, and the teams went into halftime tied, 2-2.

Georgetown came out of the break on the attack attempting four shots on-goal in the first five minutes, but Glynn was able to save all four attempts to keep the game tied at two goals apiece. Georgetown would take the lead when Cole Dewey slotted a goal in the 57th minute. The Golden Eagles had an opportunity in the 71st minute to tie it, but Abdullahi's shot hit the post and Jacob Teasley's put back attempt was saved. Jacob Davis also had a chance to slot the equalizer in the 74th minute, but it was corralled by the GC keeper. Georgetown's Gregory would put the game out of reach scoring his third and fourth goals of the game in the 79th and 86th minute. Joey Lesher would covert a penalty kick in the 90th minute to make the final score, 5-3.

The Golden Eagles will be back on the pitch hosting their home opener against Berea College Wednesday, September 7 at 5:00 pm EST.
