Golden Eagles earn a 4-0 win over Berea

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Junior Jacob McMurry put away a pair of goals to lead the Spalding University men's soccer team past Berea College, 4-0, Wednesday night at Champions Trace in Louisville, Kentucky. This win improves the Golden Eagles record to 1-2 on the season.

Goalkeeper Ryan Glynn (1-2-0) was able to hold Berea scoreless earning his first shutout of the season. Jacob McMurray came off the bench to score his first two goals of the season, while Sergio Olvera-Vancini and Osman Hussein both scored one goal each.

SU got on the board in the 24th minute when McMurry fired a shot past the keeper to give the Golden Eagles a lead of 1-0. From that point forward the game became a very physical with Berea's defender, Ubai Abulteaf and midfielder Issac Domenech both receiving yellow cards before the end of the first half. The half ended with Spalding leading, 1-0.

The Golden Eagles continued to grow their lead in the 78th minute when Osman Hussein put one in the back of the net to extend the lead to 2-0. The fouls were persistent which lead to Holehan finding McMurray in the box to convert his free kick into an amazing one-touch goal to advance their lead to 3-0 in the 85th minute. Berea tried to comeback but were unable to answer after Olvera-Vancini scored in the final minute of the match with the assist from Chris Muncy, and the Golden Eagles completed the 4-0 shutout.

The Golden Eagles will be back on the pitch in the 27th Annual Bob Allen Nissan Classic on Friday, September 9th taking on Thomas More College. Kickoff is set for 5:00 pm EST at Centre College in Danville, KY.
