FRANKLIN, Ind. – Freshman
Kornell Hilliard scored his second goal of the game to push the Golden Eagles past Franklin College in overtime, 2-1, Sunday afternoon in Franklin, Ind. With the victory SU's record improves to 2-6-0, and leaves Franklin without a win at 0-5-2.
The first half ended scoreless although SU put more pressure on Franklin's keeper, Garrett Belden, with seven shots while SU's
Ryan Glynn dealt with two. The first goal came for the Grizzlies in a two-on-one situation with the keeper, finished by Mason May, assisted by Conrad Bomber in the 50
th minute. SU's
Kornell Hilliard chipped one over the keeper into the back of the net during a counter attack to tie the game 1-1 in the 74
th minute.
Overtime lasted just fourteen seconds as
Kornell Hilliard, on another breakaway, was able to finish his second and game-winning goal. It was a tough fought game for both teams; SU received two yellow cards, while Franklin received four, as well as one red card during the game.
The Golden Eagles will now prepare for conference play, and get set to take on Fontbonne University this Saturday at Champions Trace; game time is set for noon.
