Golden Eagles suffer a pair of tough losses at Webster, 7-5 and 4-3

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Spalding University softball team dropped two diffiuclt games to Webster, 7-5 and 4-3. In the first contest, Chelsea Thornley (4-5) picked up the win, while Alexis Spriggs (2) earned the save. Robyn Schoen (5-8) was hit for the loss. The second game saw Alexis Spriggs (5-6) get the win, while Amber Kilburn (3-8) took the loss.
 
Kilburn had a productive day, going 3-for-6 with a RBI and a run. Becca Mouser went 3-for-7 with a RBI. Alyssa McAfee went 2-for-7, including a homerun with two RBI's and a run.
 
Webster opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on a RBI double from Sydney Coleman. In the top of the fourth, Brooke Lamon would hit a double, followed by another one from Kilburn to knot the game at 1-1. The Gorloks would take the lead back in the bottom of the fourth on a sac fly to make it 2-1, Webster. The Gorloks would extend their lead in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four runs, capped off by a RBI double by Erin McGinnis to make it 6-1. The Golden Eagles would have an answer in the top of the sixth, scoring four runs of their own. McAfee hit a two-run homerun to make it 6-3. With runners on second and third, an error would bring Lamon home to make it 6-4. Kaylin Rucker would hit a RBI double to cap off the inning, trailing Webster 6-5. The Gorloks would add an insurance run in the sixth to make it 7-5, off of a RBI single from Coleman. Spalding would get two runners on in the top of the seventh, but be unable to find a way to get them home.
 
Spalding took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. A RBI triple from Samantha Klein made it 1-0.  Mouser would follow with a double, to bring in Klein. Webster would get a run back in the bottom of the third on a RBI groundout to make it 2-1, Spalding. The Gorloks would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth, on a Carol Weiler groundout, scoring the runner on third. The game would go into the eighth inning, when Amanda Gilliland would hit a RBI single to take a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the eighth however, Webster would put runners on the corners. A groundout would bring the runner on third home, tying the game. A Sac fly would move the runner on first to third, and an error would bring the winning run home.
 
The Golden Eagles will be back in action Friday, April 22nd to take on Transylvania University in double-header action. The first game is scheduled for 3:30 pm EDT.
