Golden Eagles fall 10-8 and 9-1 at Transy

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Spalding University softball team dropped both games of a double-header to Transylvania, 10-8 and 9-1. This sees the Golden Eagles overall record fall to 8-20, while the Pioneers ride their eight game winning streak to 19-10. In the second game Jamie Lutes (9-2) picked up the decision, while Amber Kilburn (3-9) was left with the loss.
 
Sam Klein led the Golden Eagles at the plate going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Amber Kilburn also finished with two RBIs on a 2-for-4 performance.  
 
Transylvania jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first off of two-run homerun from Krista Deburger. The pioneers would extend that lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the second on two RBI singles. Spalding would get on the board in the top of third. Amanda Gilliland would single, before Samantha Klein stepped in and hit a two-run shot of her own to make it 4-2, Transylvania. The Pioneers would answer right back in the bottom half, bringing three runs in to score to make it 7-2. The Golden Eagles made a push down the stretch scoring a run in the sixth inning and five in the seventh, but the rally fell short when Brook Lamon fouled out to first base.
 
The second game saw the Pioneers jump out to 5-0 lead. The scoring was highlighted by a two RBI single by Meg Liter. Spalding would get on the board in the top of the second. Klein would lead off with a double down the right field line. Alyssa McAfee would beat the throw on a bunt to put runners on the corners and Amber Kilburn would hit a sac fly to make it 5-1. In the bottom half, Transylvania added a run to extend the lead to 6-1. The Pioneers would try to put the game away in the bottom of the fourth, when Liter hit a three-run homerun to make it 9-1. Spalding would load the bases in the top of the fifth, trying to extend the game, but would be unable to bring a run home.
 
Spalding will be back in action Saturday, April 23rd in Elsah, Ill. to take on Principia College in double-header action. The first game is scheduled for 3 pm EDT.
