Golden Eagles sweep double header at Berea, 8-2 and 20-2

BEREA, Ky. – The Golden Eagle softball team swept a double header at Berea College Sunday afternoon, 8-2 and 20-2.

In game one, Samantha Klein led the Golden Eagles at the plate going 3-for-4, including a home run in the seventh inning, while driving in three RBIs and three runs scored. Brooke Lamon went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and scored a run.

Robin Schoen (3-3) earned the win allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out and walking on run.

Lamon put the Golden Eagles on the board in the second inning with a solo home run to give SU a 1-0 lead. Spalding added four more runs in the third inning, highlighted by a Klein two-run single that brought Alyssa McAfee and Lindsey Hubbard across the dish helping SU to a 5-0 lead. A Lamon two-RBI double stretched the margin to seven runs, and a Klein solo shot extended it to 8-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.
Berea scored two in the home half of the seventh, but the SU defense held on to get the win. 

In game two, Klein led SU at the plate going 3-for-5 with four RBIs, and Shelby Kilgore drove in four RBIs and scored two runs on a 2-for-4 showing at the plate.

Amber Kilburn (2-2) earned the win holding Berea to two runs on eight hits, while striking out one batter.

The Golden Eagles jumped on Berea early scoring four runs in the first inning highlighted by a Becca Mouser double scoring McAfee and Amanda Gilliland. After a Berea run in the bottom of the first, SU added seven runs in the second ballooning their lead to 11-1, and the route was on as Spalding added four runs in the fourth inning and five runs in the fifth inning for the final margin.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action Thursday when they head to Hanover College to take on the Panthers at 3:30 p.m. EST.
