MYRTLE BEACH, S.C – The Spalding University softball team suffered a tough loss to Albright College, 3-2. Spalding sees their overall record drop to 3-5, while the Lions improve to 9-1. Sammi O'Connor (5-0) continued her hot start, picking up the victory.
Robyn Schoen (2-3) was tagged for the loss.
Becca Mouser had an impressive day, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base.
Shelby Kilgore was an on-base machine, going 1-for-1 with two walks and a stolen base.
Alyssa McAfee saw the ball well, going 2-for-4.
Spalding struck first in the top of the third inning. Kilgore singled and stole second, moving into scoring position. A Mouser single to center field would bring Kilgore home, giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. In the top of the fifth with the bases loaded,
Brooke Lamon would hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring the runner from third to extend the lead to 2-0. Albright College would make their come back in the bottom half, scoring three runs to take a 3-2 lead. Armida Roman highlighted the inning with a two RBI double to right center. In the top of seventh, Spalding would threaten when Mouser hit a triple with two outs. The Lions defense would hold however, ending the Golden Eagles rally attempt.
Spalding will be back in action this Saturday, March 19
th when they travel to Wilmington, Ohio to take on Wilmington College in a double-header. The first game is scheduled for a 1 pm EST start time, followed by the second game.
