MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Spalding University softball team saw their three game win streak come to an end, losing a defensive struggle with Albright College, 1-0. The win sees the Lions improve to 6-1 on the season. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 3-3 overall. Riley Gerenda (3-1) was credited with the win, while
Amber Kilburn (1-2) was hit with the loss.
Alyssa McAfee had a good outing, going 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
Shelby Kilgore went 1-for-3 and added a stolen base as well. Armida Roman led the way for the Lions, going 1-for-3, including an RBI triple.
Spalding threatened in the bottom of the first inning with runners on first and second, but were unable to get them home. Again, in the bottom of the second, the Golden Eagles threatened when Kailyn Rucker stole second to move into scoring position, but were still unable to bring her home. Albright College opened the scoring on Roman's RBI triple for a 1-0 lead. Spalding again threatened in the bottom of the fifth with runners on second and third, but once again stranded the runners to come away empty-handed. The final two innings would see six up and six down for Spalding as they failed to mount a rally.
Spalding wraps up their participation in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic Wednesday, March 16
th when they take on Rutgers-Camden at 9:30 am EST, followed by Albright College at 11:30 am EST.
