MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Spalding University softball team suffered their second loss of the day, falling to the University of Wisconsin-Stout, 3-0. Beth Wood (1-1) earned the victory, while
Amber Kilburn (0-1) was tagged with the loss. Tori Workman (1) earned the save.
Brooke Lamon had a solid day hitting as she went 2-for-3.
Kaylin Rucker went 1-for-3 and added a stolen base. The Blue Devils were led by Beth Wood, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
Spalding fell behind early after giving up two RBI singles in the top of the first inning. Spalding looked to strike back in the bottom of the second when
Robyn Schoen singled, moving Lamon into scoring position. The inning would end on a double-play as the Golden Eagles failed to bring anyone home. The University of Wisconsin-Stout would extend their lead to 3-0 in the top of the third on a RBI single from McKayla Brunner. The Golden Eagles were unable to manufacture a late rally and in the end, succumbed to the Blue Devils pitching.
Spalding continues their participation in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic Monday, March 14
th when they take on Morrisville State College. First pitch is set for 9:30 am EST.
