Lesher slots game-winner leading men's soccer to fifth straight win

CARLINVILLE, Ill. – Senior Joey Lesher blasted a free kick from outside the box into the back of the net, and the defense held as the Spalding University men's soccer team won their 5th consecutive game topping Blackburn

College, 1-0. With the win the Golden Eagles improve to 6-6-0 overall and sit atop the SLIAC standings at 4-0 in conference.

Senior goalkeeper Ryan Glynn (6-5-0) earned his fourth shutout of the season making four saves, including a pivotal save on a Blackburn penalty kick in the 29th minute.

Despite the 1-0 score, the Golden Eagles dominated possession outshooting the Beavers 28 to 7, including 18 to 4 in shots on frame. SU also held an advantage in corner kicks taking seven to Blackburn's one. Spalding sent shots everywhere but into the back of the net through the first 72 minutes of the game. Finally, in the 73rd, Lesher, stepped up and blasted a screamer past Blackburn keeper Kendl Gulick for the game-winner.

The Golden Eagles will back on the pitch Saturday, October 15 hosting Eureka College. Kickoff is slated for 3:00 pm EST at Champions Trace.
