LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University men's soccer team remains undefeated in SLIAC after a 6-0 win over Eureka College. The Golden Eagles record improves to 7-6-0 overall, and 5-0 in conference play. Eureka College moves to 6-6-1 on the season and 1-4 during SLIAC play.
The Golden Eagles controlled possession the majority of the game and were dominant offensively tallying 26 shots to Eureka's one. Goalkeeper,
Ryan Glynn (7-5-0), earned the save and his fifth shutout of the season. Eureka's goalkeeper, Hector Varela, made some big saves, despite the score, earning ten total.
Austin Lanham was the first to strike for the Golden Eagles, scoring his first goal of the season, in the 11
th minute. His goal was assisted by
Kornell Hilliard, who scored his fifth goal of the season in the 13
th minute assisted by
Sergio Olvera-Vancini to take the lead 2-0. The next goal came off of a corner taken by
Jacob Holehan; the ball was headed into the back of the net beautifully by freshman defender,
Finn Kola markin Kola's first goal of his collegiate career.
Jacob Teasley scored his second goal of the season in the 43
rd minute to end the first half 4-0.
SU got off a couple close shots early in the second half, but it was
Osman Hussein who fired the ball from about 25 yards out right past the keeper to take the 5-0 lead. Hilliard was credited with his second assist of the game.
The sixth and final goal came from
Joey Lesher off of a penalty kick that he placed low to the left post. Lesher has scored four goals so far this season.
SU will now prepare to face Greenville College this Wednesday at 3pm. The conference match will be held at Champions Trace.
