JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Spalding University men's soccer team defeated MacMurray College, 5-1, Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville, Ill. The Golden Eagles improve to 9-6 on the season, and remain undefeated in the conference at 7-0.
SU attacked early, getting off a couple of shots, before Abdul Abdullahi found the back of the net in the 11
th minute; the goal was assisted by
Osman Hussein. Abdullahi has four goals on the season. The next goal was scored by
Kornell Hilliard in the 33
rd minute, assisted by
Jacob Holehan. Hilliard's seventh goal of the season gave SU the 2-0 lead. Just before the end of the first half, MacMurray's Aaron Lopez cut SU's lead down to 2-1.
The second half started with another strong SU attack with the first goal coming from
Tenko Kono in the 55
th minute; this was Kono's first goal of the season. Hussein had his second assist of the night to Kono and continued to score the next two goals. The assists were credited to
Jacob McMurry and K. Hilliard. Hussein has scored ten goals this season.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action this Tuesday with a chance to clinch the top seed against Webster University. The SLIAC match is set for 9pm in St. Louis, Mo. With a win the Golden Eagles can clinch the top seed in the 2016 SLIAC Tournament.
