Golden Eagles storm back from 2-0 deficit to top Greenville, 7-3

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University men's soccer team stormed back from a 2-0 deficit to win their seventh consecutive game, 7-3, over Greenville College. The Golden Eagles remain undefeated in conference at 6-0 and 8-6 overall. Greenville moves to 8-4-8 on the season, and 1-3-2 in SLIAC play.

Overall, SU was the dominating team offensively, getting 24 shots off to Greenville's 10. The Golden Eagles earned seven corner kick opportunities while the Panthers only had one.
Despite controlling most of the game, Greenville was the first to score in the 14th minute. Christian Gomez scored off of a header to take the early lead. Edgar Bueno followed with another goal for the Panthers in the 20th minute to put the Golden Eagles behind, 2-0.

SU responded quickly with a goal by Osman Hussein, assisted by Kornell Hilliard. Hilliard had another assist to Jacob Teasley who scored to tie the game 2-2 in the 24th minute. Six minutes later, Jacob Holehan found Teasley, again, who ripped the ball past the keeper to give the Golden Eagles the 3-2 lead. Before the close of the first half, SU scored three goals within eight minutes. Hilliard earned his sixth goal of the season, assisted by Teasley. Joey Lesher assisted freshman, Clayton Henn, with his first collegiate goal. Holehan crossed the ball into the box, finding Hussein who finished the ball with his head. The Golden Eagles led 6-2 at the end of the first half.

Jacob McMurry was the fifth Golden Eagle to find the back of the net today after he drilled the ball far post past the keeper. The assist was credited to Hussein. The final goal of the game was scored by Greenville's Max Schimmelpfenning to cut SU's lead to 7-3.

The Golden Eagles will prepare to take on MacMurray College October 22nd at 3:30pm. The SLIAC match will take place in Jacksonville, Ill.
